The Rajpoot

This project doubled in size the award winning Indian restaurant The Rajpoot in Argyle Street, Bath. The sub basement adjacent to the restaurant, originally a bakery, was stripped back to the stonework. Structural openings were made, walls moved and built, staircases moved and a lift dismantled.

The area was then damp-proofed and plastered. Ventilation and air conditioning was installed, along with a complex lighting and sound system.

Bespoke joinery was designed and built, in keeping with the requirements, and a disabled lavatory created. The crucial stage was when we knocked through the 600 mm thick dividing wall. It was necessary for this to be carried out as quickly and as “dust free” as possible; closing the restaurant for as little time as possible. We then had to accommodate the different floor levels between the two rooms and to create a finished reception area that combined the two; and was bright and inviting.
